Informs them that she published Gerda's book in London, which include several poems of the "Fate and I" and all of the "Earth Poems", except the "Earth Poem"; does not know how it will effect their american publication. if so just make one small book of her new poems and let the rest go.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
